Shaping the Future of Museums
We are an organisation based in Johannesburg. We shape the future of Museums through Training, Consulting and Systems development.
The ETHER Initiative was created in 2008 in response to the emerging demand at the interface of Heritage and ICT. We have since grown and expanded and have introduced a range of products and services dealing with digital heritage and best practices in heritage management.
We provide long-term support for heritage institutions (museums, archives, libraries and galleries) in accordance with international best practice. Our services include both preservation of the physical and creation of the digital.
This unit consists of Heritage Workshops and training courses. Throughout the past five years, we have run a large number of workshops for the heritage sector, focusing largely on the needs of museum personnel, but also accommodating the needs of archivists and librarians.
In order to achieve your institutional goals, it is vital to have a good governance structure. All corporate bodies, large and small, public and private, for-profit and not-for-profit, are required to adhere to the principles and practices of good governance. However, many institutions are struggling to carry out their mandate, and are often unsure of the relationship between governance and management.
The world is becoming increasingly digital and it is becoming easier to accessinformation at any time via computers, mobile phones and tablets.
ETHER Base is the name of the collection management system (CMS) which we have developed and built over the past ten years.
