We are pleased to announce a new training workshops to be held in May.
May 20-22 2013, Champagne Castle, Central Drakensberg. The second training workshop is three days on database technology, which we call “Databases for Heritage Professionals” and which will use either Microsoft Access or OpenOffice Base, depending upon your preferences. This is a practical workshop and training session which focuses on how you can start to create your own databases for collections and operations, using best practices in database design, development and deployment.

NOTE: The workshop on Digitisation is now being scheduled for the various provinces rather than on a national basis. We will shortly post an updated schedule on our web site. The first of these is a two-day practical workshop on digitisation, which we call “Do-It-Yourself Digitisation” which is structured to get you up and running with your initial digitisation projects at low cost and as quickly as possible.
The Databases for Heritage Professionals three-day training will take place at our training centre in the Champagne Castle area of the Drakensberg. This will include full accommodation and meals at our dedicated facility. This training is ideally suited to those who have created their own databases and want to improve them. This is a technical training but this will not require prior programming knowledge. A basic tutorial on computer programming will be included into this workshop. For this you are expected to also bring along your own databases, and some time will be spent on analysing these in order to bring them up to best-practice.
The Do-It-Yourself Digitisation workshop will focus on the full life cycle of digitisation, using the Digital Heritage Framework which includes the Ten Process model which we developed and which we have adapted and supplemented over time. This Ten Process model is a guide to how to conduct digitisation, and in particular how to embed a digital culture into your institution, as you move towards becoming a “digital institution”.
