Week 12/2017: Temperature

Rationale: Temperatures that are too low or too high can damage artifacts adversely based on the material of the artifact, often accelerating deterioration. It is important to keep artifacts out of basements and attics where the biggest shifts in temperature can occur.

Recommendation: Attempt to keep temperatures between 18-22°C in a cool, dry place.

Week 11/2017: Preventive Conservation

Rationale: Heritage Institution can really only slow the process of deterioration. Preventive conservation is controlling temperature, humidity, light, security, mishandling, and other potentially damaging agents.

Week 10/2017: If in doubt DO NOT try!

Rationale: When attempting to cleaning metal it is important to know that metals and their surfaces are porous and can be damaged very clearly. Therefore if you are not sure how to clean the items do not try ask a conservation expert. This is true for all attempts at conservation.

Week 9/ 2017: Careful cleaning Metals

Rationale: When attempting to cleaning metal it is important to know that metals surfaces are porous and can be damaged very clearly. therefore if you are not sure how to clean the items do not try ask a conservation expert.

Week 8/2017: Isolate any items that are suspected of containing insects or mold.

Rationale: If items are thought to contain insects or mold it is imperative to separated into a different room before contamination can occur. Suspect items can then be treat appropriately to solve that problem as best as possible.
